Predators 56 - Greys 0, Game Stats

As we prepared this week for our game vs Ekeby we had some issues with minor injuries from the last game. Nothing serious but some sore shoulders and a handful of sick players. As well this week we had 3 offensive starters gone for the weekend to practice for the U19 National Team. Both Tackles and a RB were not going to be at the game.  Practice was a challenge at times because of a lack of #s. I had heard that Ekeby was one of the weaker teams in our Division but the had only lost last week 7-13 to Gotenburg who we think might be good this year. We prepared well and came into the game very confident even with the lack of depth going into this week.

The game started and Ekeby made 2 big mistakes even before the game started. First they won the toss and chose to defer and give us the ball first. Second they then had the choice of field and chose to give us the wind at our backs for the first quarter. The kick was short, i am surprised that the kickers aren't better here(ours is very good though). We had a nice return by one of younger players Pontus Nilsson. We got the ball at mid field and after a false start on the first snap we struck deep for 52 yards to Sorin Pandrea down to the 4 yard line. The next play we scored on a sweep around the edge but was called back do to a phantom holding penalty. The refs here in Sweden are suspect at best. A couple plays later we threw a touchdown to Ben Hörnquist. I want to give a special shout out to our Wr Harald Åkerberg who caught a 5 yard TD in the 2nd quarter.

The defense did there job and forced Ekeby to punt and shortly after QB Phil Juhlin found Sorin Pandrea again. This time for a TD. This was pretty much how the rest of the game went. I was very proud of how we were able to keep our level of play high and execute. Juhlin was outstanding again completing his first 8 passes on his way to a 6TD 236yd performance.

I challenged the Offensive line this week. Down two starters, i wanted to focus on running the football this week. We did just that. On 31 carries we ran for 219 yards and 2 TDs. Protection was outstanding as well giving up 0 sacks.

The defense was challenged this week with the lack of depth do to injury on our Dline. We played well and very consistent all game on way to a shut out. Linebackers Sacce Hörnquist, Marcus Schön, and Nils Olsson were our top tacklers and dominated the line of scrimmage all day.

There was one very low point. Early in the 4th Quarter we had a major injury to DE Peter Buren. On a complete freak accident Peter was reaching to make a tackle and got his arm caught and fractures both bones in his forearm. Peter had Surgery today and came out well. There is a chance he makes it back for the playoffs but we wish him a healthy and speedy recovery.
